The INSIGHTS exhibition opened on February 26 to thunderous applause from an audience of more than 800 invited guests – among them big names from world of art, culture and business. Many German stars strode down the red carpet and admired their portraits by the artist, including actors Sky du Mont, Ralf Bauer, Simone Thomalla, Sophia Thomalla, Fernanda Brandão and singer Marc Terenzi. Numerous Lufthansa Private Jet and Lufthansa First Class guests, who had previously signed up for the exclusive event, were also in attendance.

The Munich furniture store KARE Kraftwerk, which is housed in a former power station, made an extraordinary venue for the pre-opening events and the three-week exhibition. Transformers, reinforced concrete and modern furniture provided a unique backdrop of industrial chic into which the work of internationally renowned photo artist and film director Mayk Azzato blended beautifully. The event was hosted by German TV presenter Jennifer Knäble, and guests danced to the beats of DJane Giulia Siegel until late into the night.

Visitors to INSIGHTS will be able to view the work of internationally renowned photo artist Mayk Azzato through March 22, 2015. The centerpiece of the exhibition, which was created especially for it, is the photo series MOVEMENTS. Well-known for fashion and landscape photography in addition to his famous portraits of stars from film, sports and politics, the Italian photographer and director is regarded as an exceptionally versatile member of his profession. Oscar prize winner Kevin Costner, international soccer star Bastian Schweinsteiger, boxing champion Vitali Klitschko and famous rapper Snoop Dogg are just a few of the extraordinary individuals Mayk Azzato has portrayed, and the list goes on. Azzato has ambitions, too: He says the Dalai Lama, Madonna, Robert De Niro* and Clint Eastwood are still missing from his portrait gallery. The 90 works that make up the exhibition include large-format black-and-white photos of New York City and Los Angeles, color photos of Cannes – and many other motifs from the Azzato archives, which the artist himself put together for the occasion.

This is not the first instance of cooperation between Mayk Azzato and Lufthansa. In the fall of 2014, the artist produced the five-part photo series MOVEMENTS for the INSIGHTS exhibition. “MOVEMENTS portrays choreographed moments dedicated to human beings, travel and locomotion,” the artist explains. The series’ protagonists are actors Sky du Mont and Julia Dietze. “The timing coincided perfectly with the 10th anniversary of Lufthansa Private Jet,” Azzato continues. The director’s cut was shown for the first time ever at the pre-opening event in a video installation.

The exhibition is open daily and will run through March 22, 2015 at the KARE Kraftwerk, Drygalski-Allee 25, 81477 Munich. Hours: Monday–Saturday, 10am 8pm, Sundays 1pm–5pm.
