Nowhere are golf courses as beautiful, exclusive or rich in history as in St. Andrews in Scotland – experience the sacred green with Lufthansa Private Jet

Golf has long been an attractive sport all over the world, and every phenomenon has its origins and every sport its sacred sites, places you need to have visited and seen at least once in your life if you wish to belong. St. Andrews on the Scottish coast is one such place. Some of the best and oldest golf courses in the world are situated in the direct vicinity of this small town.

First and foremost, there’s the Old Course, aka the “sacred green,” which over the years following 1889 was regularly adapted by the legendary golfer and golf architect Old Tom Morris – although the deep bunkers and the bridge at the 18th hole of course remain unchanged. To this day, the Old Course is regarded as the historical cornerstone of the sport, and even seasoned pros swing their clubs here in awe. The internationally applicable golf rules have been made here since time immemorial.

However, the Old Course is by no means the only stop on this trip; LPJ will also take you to neighboring golf links. One of them is the Castle Course, for example; set atop steep cliffs, it offers players a magnificent view of the North Sea. Then there’s the Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course, where the European team including German golfer Martin Kaymer triumphed over the USA in the 2014 Ryder Cup. “The finest piece of land I have ever been given to work with,” Jack Nicklaus, the course’s creator, is said to have remarked. The golf tour is rounded off with a visit to Kingsbarns, seven miles east of St. Andrews. Golfers have been teeing off here since 1793. The perfect swing, which is what golf is all about – where else would you expect to achieve it than at the green heart of Scotland?

Perthshire is Scotland as it should be: hilly, wooded, and a patchwork of lakes and lush green meadows stretched out beneath a gray-blue sky. The Cromlix House Hotel, a Victorian mansion, breathes the very spirit of tradition. The exclusive and highly individual residence was built as a family home in 1874 and reopened in 2014 following complete renovation.

Stepping through an imposing portal, you enter its magnificent entrance hall. Large, heavy armchairs, wood-paneled walls and a crackling fire in the hearth evoke a genuine Scottish atmosphere. There are 15 rooms and suites here, all individually furnished and offering a maximum of comfort and convenience plus a grand view across rolling fields and woodland. The hotel is set in some 14 hectares of grounds – more than ample for some modern tennis courts, impressive falconry demonstrations, a clay pigeon shooting range and a lake for fishing. The next attraction after the scenery is the Whiskey Room, perhaps with a good book from the well-stocked hotel library. In the evening, Michelin Star chef Albert Roux enchants his guests at the Chez Roux. He holds the Order Of The British Empire for his culinary services. Cromlix House Hotel undoubtedly provides the ideal setting in which to gain the inner peace you need to play a satisfying round of golf on the most famous golf courses in the world.
